Updating the configuration file

Post by subornaakter40 »

So, you already have all the files and the database on the new hosting. But the work is not finished yet: they still need to be combined, while they exist separately from each other. To do this, find the wp-config.php file on the new hosting.

You need a new database name, username high school coaches email list and password; leave localhost as is. Database host remains the old one, because almost all providers use localhost.

So, you have combined the database with the content of your resource.

But even after this, there is something else that needs to be done, something that is hard to do without. Namely:

Transferring email accounts
There is no fundamental difference between this action and transferring WordPress files. You will find absolutely all the contents of your email (not only letters, but also settings) in the public_html/mail/ folder. Use an FTP client or cPanel to transfer them.

How to transfer a website to a new hosting

Now you also need to transfer your email accounts from the old hosting to the new one. Now you won't have to change your email settings in your email client (Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.).

Changing DNS Server and Moving a Domain
You can give a different name to the DNS server at any time, but you need to do this after all the steps described above because this way you will prevent the occurrence of a non-working period for your resource while you transfer it to a new hosting.

Let's say your domain is registered with a hosting company. Then you need to write to your previous provider, informing them of your desire to transfer the domain. They may not respond immediately, but after a few days. Then contact the support service of the new hosting.

If your domain is registered with a third-party registrar, you only need to change the server name to the one provided by your new hosting company. The changes may not take effect immediately - you will need to wait.

The financial side of moving a site to a new hosting
Hosting is provided for money, and the conditions may vary. Thus, Russian providers usually charge in advance: for a month, three months, six months or even a year. It is most advantageous to pay for a year at once, since the monthly fee in this case will be minimal. It is better to fix the date of the next payment for yourself, because the hoster has many sites and you may not be warned, but simply disconnect your site if you forget to pay on time.

Hosting providers, as a rule, do not apply any fines. They will simply delete all your data after about a month. If you cooperate with the same hosting provider on other issues, this will not affect them in any way. You may be warned about the time of data deletion, but they may not do this.

I have always been concerned about the issue of moving to a fundamentally new level. So that the indicators would grow not by 2 or 3 times, but by several orders of magnitude. From a thousand visits to ten thousand or from ten thousand to a hundred thousand, if we are talking about a website, for example.

And I know that such leaps are always the result of painstaking work in five areas:

Technical condition of the site.
SEO.
Collection of site semantics.
Creating useful content.
Working on conversion.
And at the same time, every manager needs an increase in sales and the number of applications from the site at the moment.

Foreign providers behave differently. As a rule, you sign a cooperation agreement with them not for a year, but for a longer period. The money will be automatically debited from your card or via PayPal. If you do not use either payment method, you will receive an invoice for payment every month and you will be given time to pay this invoice (say, two weeks).

If you have signed a contract for a certain period, you will not be able to leave at any time: you will have to pay the penalty stipulated by the contract. When you can terminate the contract at your own discretion must be specified in the contract itself, otherwise you will have to fulfill it until the very end of the term. If you want to leave before the expiration of the contract, you will have to notify the host first.

If you don't do this, you will be automatically charged for another payment period or billed for that period. Once you find out, you can finally contact your provider, but you will still have to pay for both the current month and the next one.

If the invoice is issued but not paid, the provider will stop servicing your site, but will not terminate the contract with you. That is, you will still have to pay, despite the fact that the site will be blocked. Moreover, if there is a debt, you may be denied all services, even those not directly related to the site.

The financial side of moving a site to a new hosting

True, you can simply turn off autopayment and not respond to incoming bills. In this case, the hoster is unlikely to get to you, but you should consider your departure as final and irrevocable, since they will remember you and will no longer have anything to do with you.

This is what European providers do, Americans may behave differently. In any case, both tend to strictly adhere to the terms of the contract, but will demand the same from you.

American hosts often charge a year in advance and nothing else. The contract is automatically renewed. If you want to end the cooperation, you will either have to pay for another year that you no longer need, or resolve the issue with the support service, and you will definitely be required to pay a penalty, and the rest of the services will be blocked for the duration of the negotiations.

Unlimited traffic, typical for Russian providers, is not accepted in the USA: if you exceed a certain volume, you will be presented with an additional bill, they may even offer to buy an additional traffic package, and while you are thinking, your site will be blocked again.

So, if you have chosen a provider from the USA, immediately inquire about the volume that will be provided to you under the tariff you have chosen.

If you have settled on a specific hosting, no matter whether it is Russian or foreign, first familiarize yourself in detail with all the conditions, including payment, rules for terminating cooperation, and if you have questions, contact the support service. Until absolutely everything is clear to you, it is better not to make a final decision and not move your site to a new location.
