The federal law was signed by the president on April 5 and will come into force on June 1, 2021. According to the publications, the government can now control everything related to activities that go beyond the established educational programs and are aimed at disseminating any knowledge. The measures taken are justified as follows: "To protect Russian citizens, primarily schoolchildren and students, from anti-Russian propaganda presented under the guise of educational activities."
Interestingly, shortly after the news was released, the largest classifieds platform Avito banned the posting of electronic versions of books, audiobooks, and online course materials.
