Dedicated to the fiftieth anniversary of Senegal's independence from France, the African Renaissance Monument was unveiled in April 2010. It is made of 3 cm thick bronze sheets. The height of the grandiose structure is 49 meters. The giant sculptural composition is the tallest monument in Africa, which is why it was included in the Guinness Book of Records.

The initiative to create the unprecedentedly large African Renaissance Monument belongs to the Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade. The monument cost the poor African state 27 million dollars. Interestingly , the money for it was not donations from private sponsors, but was allocated from the modest budget of the country. the Senegalese themselves were against such colossal expenses for a poor African state, which, however, did not affect the decision of the country's president.

The author of the Monument to the Renaissance of special database was the sculptor Pierre Goudiaba. The sculptural composition faces the ocean and represents a man with a child sitting on his arm and with his other arm embracing a woman standing next to him. The giant monument was conceived as a symbol of the liberation of the African continent from the oppression of European colonizers.

Ambalangoda is considered the center of production of three types of traditional Sri Lankan masks - Raksha, Kolam and Sani. All of them represent mythical demons with sharp fangs, bulging eyes and snakes instead of hair. Moreover, each type of mask has its own legend about its origin.
