Create beautiful stories about your employees
Steven explains that soon there will be no more internal communication messages. People like to pass on, to have conversations, to share. Word of mouth still works best. You can bet that internal will become external. So: our behavior and communication internally determine our behavior and communication… externally. There are no boundaries. Internal conversations that go externally give our company a human touch. Create beautiful stories about your employees, there is a lot of potential there.
Conversations build the reputation of a brand or organization: just look at the list to data effect of Tupperware evenings, where the principle of telling each other is the order of the day. And Steven should know, because his wife organizes them. Remember that a restaurant with an open kitchen always feels so nice and reliable: the things that happen in a limited circle become clear to a large group.

Do you want to make the intranet work? Then the starting point is not that as many people as possible should use it. It is about doing it together. With the intranet we can reach people and we can involve people. And do you want to get conversations going? Then be open, authentic and positive. All of Steven's (super interesting!) presentations are on Slideshare .
What did I learn today? That many organizations already have insight into the intranet phenomenon, but that making it social, actually activating the use of intranet is still a struggle for many. I still haven't found a clear answer to this question. How to get management on board, but also the people.
What has become clear to me again is that a good intranet can work fantastically if the resources are there: people who work on it dedicatedly , who are available full-time. If there is a budget available. Not to mention a positive management. And that human values are also starting to prevail in this digital resource. And not the functional ones. Because it is about the user. The starting point for every digital resource!
Since I was not present at all presentations it is impossible to make a report of everything. Check out the overview of all speakers , the presentations and the Twitter timeline via #intra13 for an impression of the day.
