The business use of social media is on the rise. Organizations frequently use platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube in the areas of marketing, communication, human resources and sales. But do they also allow their employees to use social networks?
Access or no access?
Is allowing social media in the workplace a wise choice? Yes, says TNO. Their research shows that list to data the use of social media makes employees more innovative and stimulates the creative spirit. Many employees have left the discussion about whether or not to make social platforms accessible behind them. The infographic below, developed by Press Association in collaboration with Unum, shows that more than half of the entrepreneurs surveyed provide their employees with access to social networks. One in four companies actively blocks access to these platforms.
Guidelines
Furthermore, the visualization shows that almost seventy percent of entrepreneurs have a social media policy in place. You may wonder why an organization should record rules, codes or guidelines on paper. By drawing up guidelines, you as an organization increase the awareness of your employees and obtain more consistency in their use of social media. So communicate guidelines to employees to provide support instead of rules to restrict.
