When first announced last year , Google Glass was still mainly about augmented reality : extra information via that funny 'lens' in front of your eye, while you walk around. In the meantime, the built-in camera is central to all promotional videos. Do we want that camera on our heads? Will we be sitting in the café with Glass next year? What are the interesting applications? And can Glass compete with the iWatch?
"Can I be with you?"
If it were up to Google, you would be able to send that question to friends and exciting strangers this year. If the list to data answer is yes, you would be right in the other person's head. Or, better yet, on their head: you would be watching and listening through the camera and microphone of your Google Glasses. Think of the movie Being John Malcovich . Facetime, the other way around and without hands.
Google Glass's 'head -up-display ' offers, in addition to 'first-person video', new online possibilities: information that you now have to grab your smartphone for - location and directions, the weather forecast, Whatsapp, email and the news - right in front of you when you ask for it. And the glasses know where you are and what you are looking at, so the screen can show an extra layer of information about the world: augmented reality .
Google GlassThat sea of information, right in the corner of your eye, can change our world. But in the various videos about Google Glass, the video recording plays a much bigger role than the eye shield and the headset. In Google's promotional videos, we now mainly watch skydivers, roller coaster junkies, mannequins, balloonists and cozy family scenes.
