GFK Research: Buying Preferences and Habits of Russians in the Clothing Market

With the onset of the economic crisis, every fourth Russian has reduced their spending on clothing. In 2009, more than half of Russians did not buy fashionable clothes from the top 50 famous brands. At the same time, women are more likely to save on buying clothes than men. In Russia, the majority of young people prefer prestigious brands, and men are only slightly inferior to women in their desire to buy premium goods. When choosing clothes, the price factor is in first place for almost half of Russians. In general, in Russia, saving on clothing, footwear and accessories is in first place compared to saving on other expenses, although it is worth noting that if in March 2009 20% of Russians planned to cut back on clothing and footwear, in December 2009 their share had dropped to 15%.
