With a new flex office, the municipality of Haarlem embraces the principles of The New Way of Working. But how do you, as an employee, still find the people you need to do your job well? With the Haarlems Zaakcafé, we have started an experiment to improve the quality of work with social media and information management and at the same time shorten the lead time.
The Municipality of Haarlem has embraced the New Way of Working. With the introduction of flexible working, the collaborations between employees changed. You no longer all sit together in a fixed place, but everyone can in fact get to work anytime and anywhere. In one of the five municipal office buildings in Haarlem, but also at home or on the road. The time at which you work can also vary: after all, you are no longer bound to the 9 to 5 mentality. This offers advantages, but also makes collaboration extra complicated. How and where do you still meet the people you need to be able to do your job well?
Direct access to your information
Peter van de Ruit, head of the DIV office at the municipality of Haarlem, described this australia telegram data trend in his thesis 'We are the archive' . He states that people need a digital work environment where they can exchange knowledge and information. This offers the solution to be able to work together in the organization, but also with people from outside the organization, regardless of time and place. For employees, it is ideal if they have direct access to their (documentary) information, their files, anywhere and at any time. For the organization, it is of added value that the knowledge and information that is created is directly recorded in an archive application. In this way, the government organization can guarantee digital sustainability, be accountable and serve its customers better.
Better use of collective intelligence
I picked up this idea and together with Jeroen Segers set up a feasibility study into the possibilities of creating added value in the primary processes of a knowledge-intensive organization with social media and information management systems. The study showed that the use of social media can improve the efficiency in the primary processes.
