Like works of art, texts or videos, programs are of course subject to copyright. The programmer or manufacturer can decide for themselves how to distribute their software , what rights to grant to buyers and what information to make available. With shareware, the primary goal is to sell, even if the software does not restrict the functions in any way and merely appeals to the moral sense and conscience of the user.

Freeware, on the other hand, is a finished program turkey gambling data that the developer gives away to interested parties. The terms of use include that the developer is not responsible for its use or proper functioning, provided that it is not used for illegal purposes. No one can force the developer to update the program or demand access to the source code.

Open source software is freeware whose developers also publish their source code. Programmers can submit suggestions for changes, for example for new functions, change it for their own purposes or use it for their projects. They are subject to various licenses with conditions that, for example, prohibit commercial marketing or require the publication of the modified source code.

Purchase programs are commercial programs that the customer only receives as a download or as a storage medium after payment. Beforehand, the customer receives little or only limited insight into its features and performance.
