Digitalization can contribute almost half to Germany's climate goals

Post by bhasan01854 »

Digital technologies can contribute almost half to Germany meeting its climate targets by 2030. As a recent study commissioned by the digital association Bitkom shows, CO2 emissions can be reduced by 120 megatons in ten years through the targeted and accelerated use of digital solutions . This corresponds to almost every second ton of what Germany still has to save in order to achieve its self-imposed climate targets. "Digital technologies have enormous potential for more climate protection. Now we want to put a concrete figure on this potential for Germany," says Bitkom President Achim Berg.

"With digitalization, we have an extremely strong lebanon gambling data lever in our hands to reduce CO2 emissions quickly and effectively." While CO2 emissions were still at 805 megatons in 2019, they can only be 543 megatons in 2030. In 2030, 262 megatons less CO2 must therefore be emitted than last year. The Bitkom study was carried out by environmental and digitalization experts from Accenture.

The study examines a total of seven areas of application for digital technologies in which a particularly large CO2 saving effect can be achieved. The first four areas of application have now been conclusively analyzed and the results will be presented at the Federal Government's Digital Summit on November 30 and December 1. These are the areas of industrial manufacturing, mobility, buildings and work & business . Agriculture, energy and health will follow by spring 2021. "The more we know about the connection between CO2 emissions and digitalization, the better we can use the enormous potential of digital technologies to combat climate change," emphasizes Berg.
