When did you arrive in Mexico? What brought you there?
I arrived on February 20, 2014, at the age of 27. I had been trying to find work as a journalist in Spain for more than two years and I felt it was time to cross the pond and try my luck in Latin America. I had already lived in Ecuador for a year and the experience had been very pleasant.
Is Mexico a very different country to Spain? What are the main handicaps you have encountered?
In addition to the language, which is a great advantage, there are many cultural and historical similarities between Mexico and Spain. The character of the Mexicans is quite similar to that of the Spanish: warm and friendly. And it is relatively easy to feel welcomed.
But there are also many differences: Mexicans are, in general, quite informal, and this can drive you crazy. It is essential to understand their timing, their ways of managing responsibilities and to be patient.
