How to set up your match type on Google
When placing a listing ad on Google, you can set the match type by adding specific half-width symbols to your keywords depending on the match type you want, as shown below.

The match type you want to set How to use symbols when submitting
Exact match [Setting keywords]
Phrase match "Settings Keywords"
Modified broad match +Setting Keywords
Partial match Setting keyword
* Do not add any symbols

When setting up your submission, the area circled in red in the image below shows how to select the match type, but it does not explain how to select refined broad match, so be sure to double-check the blog article or something before setting up your submission.

Also, the actual settings page has instructions on how to select the match type written in very small letters, as shown above, so be sure not to miss it.

How to set match type on Yahoo!
The way to set match types when placing listing ads on Yahoo! is significantly different from that of Google.

As shown in the image below, the match type setting page has only three options available: exact match, phrase match, and broad match.

If you want to choose one of these three, select from the options. If you want to choose modified broad match, select broad match from the options and insert a "+" before the keyword.

Just like Google, there are no instructions on the actual page about how to select modified broad match, so be sure to double-check the blog article or something before setting up your submission.

Things to consider when choosing a match type
If you don't select a match type on Google, it will choose "Broad match"
If you do not specify a match type on Google, your listing ad will be posted assuming broad match is selected.

There is no problem if you intentionally select broad match, but when you select broad match, your ad will be displayed for more keywords than if you selected other match types, so your ad will be displayed for keywords where you do not actually want your ad to be displayed, which will increase wasted clicks and increase the likelihood of incurring higher advertising costs.

When setting up your ad submission, you need to be careful not to forget to select the match type. If you find that your advertising costs are higher than you expected after submitting your ad, it may be because you forgot to select the match type, so be careful.

Enter the match type in half-width characters.
When inserting symbols to select a match type partners email database on either Google or Yahoo!, you must use half-width symbols otherwise the match type will not be selected.

When selecting a match type, be careful not to insert symbols in full-width.

Priority when multiple keywords that match a search keyword are entered
If you have entered multiple keywords that match a user's search keywords, only one of those keywords will be used to display your ad, so your company's listing ads will not be displayed multiple times on the same page.

Also, if you submit multiple keywords that match a search keyword, which one will be selected is determined based on certain rules that are determined by the degree of match between the submitted keyword and the search query, the selected match type, etc.
