DiDi and “barbaric growth” – DiDi is the latest victim of China’s crackdown on tech’s “barbaric growth . ” DiDi, the Chinese Uber ( 600 million users) , was banned from Chinese app stores following its US IPO . The result: a sharp drop in its stock and potential lawsuits from US shareholders. For Beijing, DiDi is just another target in a relatively recent strategy (remember the passing of Jack Ma, who has since taken up painting ) to reshape the relationship between the state and tech companies that have become too powerful after years of what has been described as “barbaric growth” – a popular Chinese dictionary term describing anarchic expansion.
Alibaba , Tencent and DiDi were convicted gambling data south africa this week for contracts that date back several years , the Chinese antitrust regulator has just blocked the merger of Tencent's gaming platforms , Huya and Douyu, and China wants to sabotage bitcoin . This catch-up/change of strategy is of course also happening against a backdrop of tensions between the US and China, where the battle over data and regulation is becoming an important factor in the economic war.
Meanwhile, Google, Facebook and other tech companies are threatening to leave Hong Kong over privacy law .
