The service is based on Instagram. It allows you to configure your account with it and use the community built there.
The medium is available in Poland, as in all EU countries, from December 14, 2023. The world premiere took place in July 2023.
Threads is all about conversations – sharing experiences and thoughts. An account on the site will help you create an engaged community and build positive brand associations. In this article, we’ll share some ideas on how to achieve this and where to start.
Threads (by Meta) - what is it?
Threads is a new social networking site from Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram. Medium is a communication app focused on communicating with followers in a clear and simple way, in a less formal setting. It allows you to create a kind of microblog. Conversation with other users is at the heart of the entire application, being the reason for its existence. You can share your content in any form - from text, through graphics, gifs, video, to audio. Threads also offers the option of creating polls, which was abolished on Facebook some time ago. Many people missed it! The advantage of the portal is its minimalist layout and the fact that everything is intuitive and easy to use.
How to use Threads? How does the algorithm work?
Threads offers an application layout reminiscent of TikTok or Twitter (currently X). The home page is divided into two tabs - "For You" and "Following". The default is "For You", where the algorithm suggests posts. In the "Following" tab, we only see content published by people we follow.
Threads App
The portal offers its users a wide range of tools. In Threads you can:
Publish texts of a maximum length of 500 characters.
Edit your posts within the first 5 minutes of posting.
Expand your posts using the "add to thread" option.
Add photos, gifs, clickable links.
Upload video forms with a total length of up to 5 minutes.
Insert polls (active for 24 hours).
Share voice notes up to 30 seconds long. The app automatically generates a transcript for them.
Use hashtags.
Interact with other users – by liking, sharing, commenting and replying to comments.
Share content from Threads on Instagram.
See all the posts you have liked in your settings, then in the "your likes" tab.
Choose whether the post will be public or visible only to followers.
Pin selected threads to the top of your profile.
Use the portal from a browser (at threads.net).
Set a reminder to take breaks! This is a nod to users who don't want to spend too much time scrolling.
The goal of the Threads algorithm is to personalize the content we see. The way it works canada telemarketing data is simple — the app suggests posts similar to those we follow and engage with.
The Threads account is somewhat reminiscent of the Twitter pattern (currently X). We see:
Our username (same as on Instagram).
Bio, or a short description of your profile.
Number of followers.
Posts we've published, with selected posts pinned at the top.
A tab with a list of posts we have replied to.
A tab with a list of posts we've shared.
Threads vs Instagram – What do both apps have in common?
Threads is an application created on the basis of Instagram, it gives you the possibility to configure your account with it. From Instagram to Threads you can transfer an already built follower base, as well as automatically follow the same profiles. However, it does not work the other way around - profiles that you start following on Threads do not automatically appear on the Instagram follow list.
Having a business Facebook page can help you integrate your marketing efforts across various Meta platforms, including Threads.
Importantly, you don't need to have an Instagram account to use Threads . There is an option to use the portal without a profile. Then the possibilities are limited, but you can search for specific accounts, view and report content, and share it using a link. Without registering with Instagram, it is not possible to publish your own content and interact with other users.
Deleting your Threads account will not delete your Instagram profile. However, deleting Instagram will also delete your Threads account, as it is subordinate to your Instagram profile.
An interesting fact is that Threads is the only medium where you can tag someone who has not yet created an account on the service. In such a case, all you have to do is tag the person's profile on Instagram, and they will receive a notification that someone on Threads has mentioned them. This is an interesting and at the same time very clever way to gain interest and "catch" new users.
Threads - a competitor to X (Twitter)
The creators of Threads describe the portal as “the text chat app for Instagram.” The portal is advertised with slogans such as “connect through conversation” and “share your point of view.” The service in its form and idea is indeed reminiscent of Portal X (formerly Twitter). The Threads application has been dubbed “the Twitter killer” or “The New Twitter from the creators of Facebook” for a reason.
Twitter, after being taken over by Elon Musk and undergoing a chaotic rebranding under the name of “X”, changed for the worse according to many users. The new owner introduced controversial moderation rules, modified the algorithm, and changed profile verification to a paid monthly subscription option. At that time, the portal began to lose its users. The response provided by Meta is the Threads application.
One of the most important differences, which may be the advantage of Threads, is the fact that the service is not a standalone application, but a medium configured with Instagram . Instagram has had a specific, stable position on the market for years and it is estimated that there are over 1 billion 210 million active users there. So creators want to draw from this base of people, engaging them and attaching them to the brand to an even greater extent.
What are the main differences between Threads and Twitter?
Each Threads user is allowed to use a 500-character limit in a single post. Those using the free version of Twitter are limited to 280 characters.
Twitter provides information about each post, such as the number of comments, likes, shares, and views. In Threads, you won't see the reach of a post or how many times it's been shared. You can hide the number of likes through Instagram settings.
In Threads, unlike Twitter, you can't see other users' likes.
Twitter allows you to send private messages. We can only send a private message to a Threads user on their Instagram account.
Threads now available in Poland
The Threads service has been available in all European Union countries since December 14, 2023. However, this was not a global launch. Medium premiered in July. It was initially available in the US, UK, Canada, and Japan, among others. The new application took off with a bang. In the first 5 days, it gathered over 100 million users. For comparison, ChatGPT gathered this number of users for two months, and Twitter took 5.5 years to achieve a similar result. The result was all the more impressive because at that time Medium was not yet available to users from the European Union.
Later, the number of accounts on the site began to decline, but the recent launch on the Old Continent improved these statistics. Mark Zuckerberg announced that since the launch of Threads, "a lot of improvements and updates" have been introduced. The fact is that at that time, a version for browsers was launched and the aforementioned tab was added, where we see only content added by users we follow. An existing function that was not there from the beginning is also the ability to edit your posts and tag and search using keywords.
