A week after Facebook announced the launch of commerce tools on WhatsApp, it is now the turn of Google, the search giant, to show that it is also investing its efforts in retail.
During the annual Google I/O conference , which took place last Tuesday (7), the company announced a new tool incorporated into the search engine that will use the cell phone camera as augmented reality, allowing three-dimensional objects to interact with the user's environment through the smartphone's camera. With the technology, it is possible for the Internet user to “test” products before purchasing, for example, viewing a decorative item in the environment through the camera.
In a demonstration, an employee searched for a great white shark. After clicking on the augmented reality option, the cell phone camera was activated and an interactive 3D model of a great white shark uk email list appeared in the image as if it were floating above the stage. The company then showed a video where the same thing happened with a sneaker: after searching for the product, the user selects the augmented reality tool and the cell phone camera is activated, showing a 3D model of the sneaker in real size.
In addition to representing a major technological advance, this type of tool can help reduce the number of exchanges and returns of products purchased in e-commerce, since the customer would be able to “try on” a certain product – such as clothing and decorative items, for example – before finalizing the purchase.
According to the company, the tool does not depend on additional hardware and will initially be implemented on Pixel and Samsung smartphones .
Another new feature is the development of the Google Lens platform to work in partnership with retailers. In the example presented during the event, the application automatically identifies which dishes on a restaurant menu are the most popular by pointing the camera at the menu. By clicking on any of them, you can see images and more details about the dish, all on your cell phone screen. According to Google's vice president, partnerships with retailers are still being developed to promote experiences like these.
It is possible that all features will be available in Brazil by the end of this year.
