Internet? My grandma prefers to keep busy with traditional grandma skills

Post by Bappy10 »

My grandmother as a role model
Take my grandmothers for example. Both 90 years old and not in possession of a computer or mobile phone. One of the two now reads books via an e-reader and is already getting the hang of swiping. This target group is therefore hardly accessible via the internet. They prefer the real grandmother skills: knitting and making stuffed eggs.

My father and mother are also a good example. A laptop, iPad, mobile phone and very list to data curious about smartphones. They are not on the internet for most of the day, but they do know their way around Facebook and follow various blogs of friends and family. They do not like online shopping. But when buying a new device, they make their choice based on the results on comparison sites. They find internet banking a godsend.

Of course, there is a large group between my grandmothers and my parents. I myself have the idea that this group is becoming more and more active. How do I notice that? For example, I receive more friend requests from my uncles and aunts on Facebook. I stay in touch with them via chat and Whatsapp. In addition, my mother already has quite a few sisters and sisters-in-law as opponents for Ruzzle and Wordfeud. And when I tell my grandmother that I work at an internet agency, she says 'oh yes, internet, yeah yes' and gives me the impression that she understands. Then I don't go into this subject too much.
