Consumers want more transparency when shopping

Post by bhasan01854 »

Whether it's strawberry yoghurt, frozen pizza or cold cuts: a large proportion of German consumers want precise information about exactly which ingredients are contained in food and how they are produced. Three quarters (75 percent) say they want to know exactly what is in the products when buying food and drinks.

One in two people (51 percent) already pay attention to seals or labels, such as the organic label or the MSC seal for sustainable fishing. These are the results of a representative survey commissioned by the digital association Bitkom among 1,003 homeowner database German citizens aged 16 and over. According to the survey, 87 percent say that animal welfare and sustainability are important to them when shopping . 71 percent say they pay attention to whether the products were produced regionally.

"Consumers in Germany not only want to know what is in their food, they also want to shop consciously and with information. To do this, we need transparency at all levels," says Andreas Schweikert, Bitkom's agricultural consultant. "Digital technologies are taking us a big step forward here: some products already have a QR code - or there are barcode scanner apps for information about ingredients that are used by consumers."
