Political communication is not a work of chance. However, it is more than dependent on factors that cannot be influenced. Since 2012, we have been able to support three candidacies for executive elections as a communications agency. The successes: The city of St. Gallen received a non-party member of the government for the first time, and the liberal Herisau is being chaired by an SVP man for the first time. The setback, as of the end of November: The attempt to retain the FDP's portugal rcs data second city council seat in St. Gallen in a by-election failed. After two years of absence, even large parts of the middle class wanted to get the SP back into the city council, from which it was knocked out in 2012 - with our help.
Why am I digging out cases from local politics? They show in an exemplary way that in election campaigns it is not always what is generally believed that counts. For example, that executive elections are personality elections. This is often true, but not when the general mood is for change. In the most recent case, the FDP itself could have run with Barack Obama against Mickey Mouse and the Disney character would have won. Communication strategies can be used to emphasize advantages and hide weaknesses; but when the starting position is hopeless, both are ineffective.
