Christmas is a time when we all go from shop to shop to find that gift to please our loved ones, but it is also a time of year when consumerism soars. For this reason, Greenpeace has launched the campaign “Give a gift to the planet” to show the importance and consequences of our consumption patterns for the health of the planet. According to this NGO, Spain is the second European country rcs data singapore spends the most at Christmas, ahead of Germany, and a recent study by Deloitte indicates that Spaniards will spend 30% more than the European average.
The environmental organization has released a video with simple tips that can be followed this Christmas to avoid excess and make it greener and more sustainable. The video reminds us that both environmental problems and their solutions are nothing new and that we have been hearing about them “ all our lives ,” but that we cannot delay any longer the moment of taking action, especially if we take into account that, according to the United Nations Environment Program, if we continue with the current consumption pattern, and with the probable increase of the world population to more than 9,000 million people, we would need three planets to maintain the current patterns of life and consumption of the rich countries.
The Greenpeace campaign “ Give a Gift to the Planet ” seeks to involve everyone in a common gift to the planet: the commitment to consume less and better . The campaign, and the accompanying video, focuses on three thematic blocks: energy and climate change, food and disposable products. For each of them, some simple tips are presented to make our action on the planet more sustainable.
The campaign is also live on social media under the hashtag #MiRegaloalPlaneta, inviting citizens to share their own commitment to making the planet a better place.
A more sustainable Christmas
