The Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) won the top three positions in the General Course Index (IGC/MEC) 2019 : FGV EPGE (EPGE Brazilian School of Economics and Finance of the Getulio Vargas Foundation), FGV CPDOC (School of Social Sciences of the Getulio Vargas Foundation) and FGV EESP (São Paulo School of Economics of the Getulio Vargas Foundation). The data was released by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP).
It is worth mentioning that out of 13 evaluations, this is the 9th year that FGV EPGE has been evaluated with the highest score among all higher education institutions in Brazil evaluated by the indicator. The school's continuous IGC 2019 was 4.85 (maximum possible score: 5).
Of the 2,070 universities, colleges and university centers that had their 2019 IGC published, only 46, or 2%, obtained a score of 5. Of the total number of institutions that participated in this edition, 87.1% (1,801) are private and 12.9% (269) are public. The majority (73.1%) are colleges, followed by university centers (15.6%) and universities (9.4%) and IFES (1.9%).
Every year, the MEC publishes the IGC, an instrument constructed based on a weighted average of the grades of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses of each institution. In this way, the quality of the institutions can be distinguished, with a broad perspective, including undergraduate and postgraduate stricto sensu.
