The organization and hosting of events for and with the community of members;
general interest actions;
artistic performances;
support between users (help for the less experienced, as in open source communities );
designing and developing software or tools with the community;
early access to new features (with feedback on testing);
data collection by users;

Our own research project, LINC, shows that many of these modes of participation are already well tested by the media (see the inventory of nearly 300 initiatives listed to date ). But one of the central questions raised by these lists of actions and initiatives is their degree of integration into the practices of journalists, the organization of editorial offices, the definition of editorial projects, etc.

The Membership Puzzle Project report confirms the intuition that participation and engagement models must be part of (or even generate) a more global approach. This perspective thus invites us to differentiate between the implementation of isolated or circumstantial initiatives and a deeper reflection on a positioning that promotes engagement and public support, with the aim of creating a lasting community sharing a common vision and values. An end that involves redefining ways of doing, thinking and organizing.
